Notebooks and Laptops
|
Laptop and notebook computers are small portable and mobile computers. They look like a book folded up and they weigh around 2 or 3 pounds depending on size. The notebook and laptop are used interchangeably; the laptop terminology has been around since 1983. The first laptop was the Gavilan SC. The word notebook has only been used in the past 8 years or so and the first notebook was the NEC Ultralite and the Compaq LTE series.
The terms for both styles of computers are not correct. The laptop, because of the heat that radiates from it is not appropriate to use on a person’s lap and most of the notebook computers are not the size of the A4 paper notebook. It must be noted that these style of computers are mobile computers yet portable. Portable means they can be moved around but when you say mobile, it means you can work on them in transit.
Laptops can run on a single battery for about 4 or 5 hours without having to be charged. When the laptop is plugged in, you charge it to an AC/DC adapter; it can charge the battery and supply power to the laptop while being charged. There are many great brands of laptops such as Dell, Gateway, Mac, Viao and Apple. Laptops have become very popular in the past 10 years or so. You can use them on trains, planes, taxis and in internet cafes. You can use them almost anywhere.
